Useful Information

School clothing

Please remember to name all of your child's items of clothing as it helps us to return missing items quickly. If your child has borrowed any school clothing please remember to return it as soon as possible. Thank you.

Stay and Read Sessions

We will be beginning our Stay and Read sessions after the half term holiday. These will be every Thursday at 2:40pm with the first session held on 3rd November.

Parent Volunteers

If any parents are interested in coming into volunteer to listen to children read please talk to your child’s class teacher. Regular commitment is not necessary and we can be very flexible! We are always grateful of any support to help with a range of day-to-day activities. If you are happy and able to help please talk to a member of the Early years team. The children always love to see their own and their friend’s mums and dads!

Welcome to our second term in Reception

We have all had a great first term having explored topics such as boxes, transport, deliveries and fairies. We also celebrated our very successful Nativity, with the children putting on two amazing performances.

During our Second term we will begin by investigating ‘Hats’ and ‘Hats from around the world’, along with learning about letters and writing letters. Our key text for this topic will be ‘I Want My Hat Back’ by Jon Klassen.

We will then move on to learning about ‘Celebrations’ and in particular, Chinese New Year and how people celebrate this. We may even hold our own Chinese New Year celebration.

Reception’s PE lessons begin this term and will focus on dance. Children will have a specialist dance teacher running these lessons from Witchford School Sports Partnership. Children will need their PE kits every Thursday which will need to include black shorts and a dark T-Shirt. Please remember to label these with your child’s name. Children will not need trainers or plimsolls this term and please can parents ensure that earrings are removed prior to children coming into school on Thursdays.

We have two workshops over this term which we would like to invite all Reception parents and carers to.

Talk Boost workshop, Thursday 26th January 2017 (2:15-3:00pm). This workshop will focus on how we can support children with their speaking, listening and communication skills.

Number workshop, Wednesday 8th February 2017 (9:00-10:00am). We will be inviting parents and carers in to watch a numbers session begin taught and to find out more information about how to support your child develop their number knowledge.
