Home Learning will be given out on a weekly basis. It will be given out on Friday and will be due in the following Wednesday. If you have any concerns about your child’s homework please speak to us.

Reading Diaries and Home Reading Books

Your children should now have a reading book and reading diary. Please listen to your child read every night for about 10 minutes and record your comments in the home reading record. Children make the best progress in reading if they practise little and often. Children have the opportunity to change their books every day and are responsible for doing this themselves (although they are reminded during the day). Reading books and diaries must come to school every day please.

The Year 2 Homepage!!

Welcome to the Summer Term!

We hope that you are looking forward to what is sure to be an exciting and busy term.

We have started our term by being introduced to our new learning challenge ‘Would you live here?’ which will focus on our local community and compare it to the contrasting metropolis New York City. The children have already generated some amazing questions which directed much of the learning ahead of us.

We have considered the difference between human and physical features within different environments and will now start to unpick similarities and differences between our focus locations. We are looking forward to investigating weather differences between Littleport and New York and developing our painting skills by practising mark marking, colour mixing and tones before creating some finished pieces based on a local physical feature.

In English our focus will be fairy tales with a twist! We have started by focusing on ‘Snow White in New York’ and compared this twisted version of the story with a traditional version. This will support us develop a range of skills so that we can twist a completely different fairy tale as our final outcome.

In maths our initial focus has been developing different addition and subtraction methods. These have involved both mental strategies and approaches which use physical apparatus. We will now be moving onto multiplication and division, again using a diverse range of strategies in order to build on our existing calculation skills.

If you have any questions, then please come and speak to us on the playground at the end of the day. :}
